Recruiting Staff Update via Dairy NZ

Changes to immigration that impact on recruitment of farm staff

Latest immigration news

Dairy Class Border Exception

The dairy sector was granted 1,000 employees (plus their families) to cross the NZ border to work on dairy farms. This is called the Dairy Class Border Exception and is open for applications until 7 August 2022. More information and an application form can be found here.

New Accredited Employer Work Visa

On 4 July 2022, the final stage of the new Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process opened. The AEWV effectively replaces the Essential Skills Work Visa and is the visa needed by most international employees to work on NZ dairy farms. More information can be found on our Accredited Employer Work Visa page or visit the Immigration New Zealand website.

Immigration and Covid-19

Covid-19 is still impacting immigration. Keep up to date with changes and current immigration policy due to Covid-19.

New Zealand's border to fully reopen

On 1 August 2022, the NZ border will fully reopen. By this stage, all work, student and visitor visa categories will be open. The government has granted two-year open work visas to Essential Skills, Post-Study Work and Partner of a New Zealander work visa holders who were onshore on 9 May 2022 and whose visas are expiring on or before 31 December 2022.

2021 Resident Visa

Applications for this visa must be with Immigration NZ by 31 July 2022. Most international employees who were working on an NZ dairy farm on 29 September 2021 are eligible to apply. Find out more at 2021 Resident Visa.
